Trauma is stored in the body .
By noticing our physical sensations as well as consciously moving toward a greater state of comfort in our body we are empowered to discharge the intense emotions connected with trauma ~ or any difficult situation in our life ~ and move toward making healthy choices for ourselves.
Anyone who is living with Trauma knows that this is no easy feat.
However, engaging in activities, like yoga and acroyoga, which direct how we process our experience from the part of the brain which is deeply seated in an emotional response
( amygdala) to the frontal lobe, which is responsible for rational thought, supports us over time to make better life choices.
Life choices that are based on assessing the consequences of our decisions and putting in place steps that will improve our situation over emotionally reacting and making decisions that reinforce negative patterns and choices that lead to not taking care of ourselves.
Our Biology determines our psychology and our psychology determines our biology – it is a feedback loop involving the nervous and endocrine system – neurotransmitters and hormones – which are predetermined by how we already behave but affected significantly by the thoughts and behaviour that our day to day experience deliver.
